Education
A critical foundation for sustainable human and economic development is quality education. Quality education is a key ingredient to addressing the African continent’s problems. AKCLI is working with authorities in education in both Zambia and the United States to develop the soundest, most functionally practical Christian elementary and secondary curricula for our students. The focus is the equipping of the children to have the knowledge base necessary to be successful in the adult world. The curriculum will constantly point the student forward to a hopeful future by equipping them with practical foundational instruction, and encouraging them to utilize their thinking toward innovative and entrepreneurial creativity. A significant emphasis focuses on problem solving. Students will be able to approach previously unknown subject matter, problems, or life situations and using the tools of learning which will have been practiced and internalized in school, they will be able to grasp the subject or the problem, analyze it and identify a solution. AKCLI network partners currently administer schools for AIDS orphans in both Namibia and Zambia.

Recreation is an important part of a child’s developmental upbringing. Each Village will have age appropriate play equipment and an athletic field in the pasture area. Sports leagues will be developed allowing the children in each village to compete with teams in the other villages in soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. Children love to sing and dance. Music programs and competitions will also be held.

Practical preparation for an adult work life is essential. Boys and girls of the villages will receive in-depth training in several occupational areas. Given the unknowns of an economy in the third world, instruction for each child will include several areas – computers and basic business skills, farming, country-appropriate construction trades, woodworking and furniture fabrication, auto mechanics, sewing and clothes making, and other areas in which employment needs exists. Many of the trades being taught will be utilized in the villages as on-the-job training opportunities for the students. A significant focus will address not only work skills, but also the development of work habits and an appropriate work ethic based on Biblical principles for all of the children.

Corporate partnerships will be pursued and implemented to create commercial agricultural opportunities. Small production facilities will be developed, where jobs can be created, income generated for the villages, and work site training can occur.
